Employee Spotlight: Introducing…Ken Mylar

East Liverpool City Hospital, a 199-bed community hospital in East Liverpool, Ohio, thinks very highly of Ken Mylar, their Senior Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET). They nominated him for “Employee of the Month” in 2002. But when they discovered Ken was not an employee, they had to withdraw his name! All departments at East Liverpool City Hospital have high praise for his abilities.

As a Senior BMET, Ken’s responsibilities include troubleshooting, inspecting, and repairing medical equipment located at the hospital. This equipment mainly consists of radiology and diagnostic ultrasound equipment. In addition to this, Ken has the role of Account Manager for East Liverpool City Hospital.

Over the past two years, Ken has been working on displacing OEM and 3rd party service and proposed using in-house service for Radiology and Diagnostic Ultrasound. The hospital has been very pleased with the recommendation since this solution ensures: a timely response to problems, a technician present on a daily basis to handle even the smallest of problems, and overall better customer satisfaction. In addition, the cost savings have been significant in comparison to contract costs and additional time and materials charges.

Ken Mylar joined International Shared Services in 2000 after receiving his Biomedical training in the Army. He attended many OEM schools over his 15-year career and most recently attended several courses in Radiology service.

For Ken, the most satisfying part of his job is the great feedback that he receives from the hospital on a daily basis. According to Ken, “It really makes me feel good about everything I’m doing and makes me try even harder to do it better.”

When Jim Berger, Regional Clinical Engineering Services Manager for ISS Solutions, was asked to use one word to describe Ken, his response was "competent". Jim says “Ken just knows what he is doing and how to do it right. He is a very responsible, experienced person and a pleasure to be around. Ken typically solves most problems before I am even aware of them.”

Ken is married with three teenage children who are all very active, which keeps him busy most days. He also enjoys computers, soccer, and spending time with family and friends.
